It’s why we created tip sheets for every possible scenario, including water damage — as part of our commitment to offer our customers the best service and information. So if you are facing water damage, here are some things to consider:
Tip 1. The Three Categories of Water: Not all water is the same; it’s actually categorized into three categories. Category 1 is clean water and not hazardous. Category 2 has a low level of hazardous materials that have been built up in the water. Category 3 is extremely dangerous (sewage). The levels of dangerous materials in this level of water can cause serious health issues if consumed.
Tip 2. When Should You Disinfect? It is not necessary to disinfect items that have come in contact with water that is classified as category 1 as long as you catch it immediately. If you do find that the water damage has been caused by water classified as category 2 or 3 it is important to disinfect these areas with an antimicrobial disinfectant solution.
Tip 3 Keeping Areas Dry. Even after the water has stopped and the damaged areas have been attended to, it is important to keep everything in a dry, low humidity environment with adequate air circulation.
