A reminder about the importance of reaction speed in water damage restoration for San Diego property managers:
As San Diego skylines grow taller, the importance of water damage prevention grows too for San Diego area property managers. Denser and taller structures multiply the number of possible sources of flooding and water damage. A pipe breakage on the 10th floor can potentially do a lot more damage than one on the ground floor. A flood in a 3 story underground parking lot will not be the same as one in a ground level structure.
One of the keys to limiting water damage, all other factors the same, lies in reaction speed — knowing who to call in a flooding emergency (rather than wasting time looking for the right service and telephone number) can literally save millions of dollars.
If you do not already have a plan, the first step is to put together a list of the services and people you would need to contact, and list them in order of importance, depending on the nature and size of the problem (from fire or police services, to SDG&E, to inhabitants or occupants of the building, owners and insurance providers, and of course water damage remediators).
Once the initial problem has been stopped, the most important task will be to QUICKLY remove water, inspect for moisture levels in all visible and non-visible structures, and begin the drying and repair process. As in residential water damage situations, commercial and multi-residential flooding can be complicated by secondary water damage events such as MOLD. Mold can tack on expensive consquences to water damage but, with rapid and effective water damage restoration, can usually be avoided.
