We think it’s safe to say that most property owners never have to deal with a major sewage clean up. If you are reading this now, you might be among the unlucky few who encounter this kind of very inconvenient flooding issue.
As a flood and water damage remediation company we can offer these basic facts to our San Diego area customers:
- Sewage water is Category 3 or “black water”, meaning it contains urine, feces, pathogens and/or other organic matter. It contains dangerous pathogens and is grossly unsanitary.
- It’s not because you don’t see any “pieces” that there is no risk of infection. Microorganisms are not visible to the human eye but exist in sewage water, even when you don’t see obvious signs of sewage.
- Water that infiltrates into your home or business from a storm, for instance a river that rises out of its bed, is considered sewage water. Contaminants, animal waste, and sewage can be picked up from the ground and any sewers it crosses. Proper sewage clean up is required.
