Modern + Rustic: San Diego’s climate and outdoor landscapes pair perfectly with rooms that are modern, clean and full of light, but sometimes too much modern can feel cold. Finding the perfect mix of modern with a touch of rustic, through vignettes of natural materials, is the key to bringing in some warmth. White cabinets: White cabinets are stealing kitchen hearts more and more. Their advantages are multiple — it’s an element that can be applied to any style, it creates a backdrop for any color accent, and it enhances the light of a room no matter how light or dark to start with. (See link in next paragraph for some great examples.)
Gray is “it” too: According to the National Kitchen & Bath Association, gray colors schemes in kitchens (and baths) has grown dramatically since 2010. In their “2013 Kitchen & Bath Style Report” they state that 55% of kitchens are using gray. Quartz countertops: Granite still reigns in the high court of countertops but quartz is a close second. Check out Vermont designers’ Bouchard and Pierce’s Pinterest board quartz countertops for some beautiful examples of color and pattern.
Earth friendliness: The awareness of choosing earth-friendly (or sustainable) materials and solutions for the home is on the rise, and the kitchen is one place there are many options to choose from. Take for instance bamboo countertops or floors. Bamboo is durable, beautiful, and available through sustainably harvested sources. See Teragren’s website for some good examples.
