Most of us are familiar with what hoarding is. If you are unfamiliar with hoarding, check out some of our other blogs on the dangers of hoarding, or how to approach helping someone with a hoarding disorder. However, animal hoarding is a unique form of hoarding where animals are accumulated and ill-taken care of. The individual who owns the animals may even deny the poor living conditions which the animals are in. This is a tough situation, and it can be tougher to find a way to approach the issue. Below we’ve included some resources for you to use that may be of some help.
- The UCSD Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders Clinic answers many of the questions associated with hoarding and where this behavior may stem from, as well as treatments.
- The Children of Hoarders site has resources for dealing with a parent that has hoarding tendencies, as well as animal hoarding.
- There are also videos such as this Nightline video about animal hoarders that can provide useful information.
