Keeping your carpet clean and without stains is challenging. In the home environment, there are many things that can get spilled on carpet and cause stains, and in the work environment, carpet’s biggest enemy is traffic and wear and tear.
Here are some quick tips to get some common stains out of your carpet:
1. Act fast. While it’s still a spill or a spot, get busy! Many carpets today are treated with stain resistance products, so if you act quickly you may get to that spill before it becomes a stain.
2. When you’ve spilled something liquid, blot it up carefully, but do not rub, or you may make it worse. Put a cloth on the spot, soak up the liquid and push down gently. After you have as much of the spill soaked up, use water to rinse the area and blot again until it’s dry.
3. Semi-solids like peanut butter can be gently scraped off the carpet with a dull knife. Rinse the remaining with water and blot away until you don’t get any more transfer of whatever spilled on your blotting cloth.
4. Dried solids should be vacuumed up first. Using your fingers you can break up the dried spill and continue to vacuum it up. Then use water to clean the area, blotting as you go.
