As we all know, prevention is the best medicine. But we all get busy, and sometimes simple things we could do to avoid trouble later on slip through the cracks of our daily schedule. Clean Earth Restorations hopes to give you that little push to check 3 simple things today that could save you from having San Diego water damage.
1-Check your washing machine drain hose. Can you remember the last time you did that? No? Well, then do that today! It’s the most common source of home flooding, and checking it is one of the easiest preventive measures against home flooding you can do. Pull the machine out slightly (enough to reach the hose) before running a load. While it is running, feel along the length of the hose for any moisture and check the floor for any signs of moisture. Look for visible cracks in the hose, too. If you find any cracks or moisture, change the hose immediately. If you aren’t already using a reinforced mesh hose, pick one up at your local hardware store. Watch this informative video to see how to replace the hose.
2- Inspect your chimney and roof for cracks or damage. Summer in San Diego (and especially this year) means little chance of rain, thus making it easy to visually inspect your chimney or roof for any cracks that could let water seep in during rainier times. Don’t wait until you are laying pots on the floor to catch leaks before you call the roofer – he will no doubt be busier than now with other leaky roofs and won’t hesitate to adapt his pricing to his availability!
3-Touch up peeling or damaged paint. Paint is decorative but also, especially for the exterior, a form of protection and sealant. Take a look at your paint and plan to touch up peeling or damaged areas. The amount of time and money you spend doing that now will no doubt be less than what you would spend repairing any water that infiltrates your structure.
